I have an intel i5 4690k and I'm just using the stock cooler for now but what should the idle temp be? I'm currently in my BIOS and it says CPU Temperature (DTS):51 . I have no clue what that means .
Hello... GJ... thats like 40F degrees difference in your CASE.
1) Next we need the CPU fan speed difference between those Two idles temps... your BIO's PC Health screen data will do.
2) It could be you have your BIO's CPU fan profile for " Quiet Operation?" "Energy Savings?" "Custom?"
Hello... Take a cover off your case... and re-check the temperature. This will determine if something else other than your CPU fan is causing your high idle temp.

I already have the side panel off, but I just rebooted and now the idle temp is 30 degrees celcius. Huh, I don't know what the problem was.

I didn't check the fan speed the 1st time, but it says it is running at 1625 rpm. Also my fan is set on normal it says. Should I set it to manual to run faster if the idle temp now is 30 degrees celcius?
Hello... Do not change ANYTHING... Normal is Good... Please "Just the Facts" B )
I want to know how hard your fan is Running to keep it at 50C with case closed... ( sorry i didn't ask this before )
Being scientific here...

With case closed this is what it exactly says in the BIOS. CPU Temperature (DTS): 30 . This is my first PC I built so I assume that means 30 degrees celcius, because right below it it says the system temperature is 25 degrees celcius. So am I all good now?
