Depends on what you mean by 'data'.
What specifically?
specificly like antivirus files, games, and other stuff
Application, incl games, will need to be reinstalled on the new PC.
Your files can be copied to USB, or copied over the LAN.

If you're just worried about personal files and data (no applications or the OS itself) then the easiest would be to use an external USB HDD. Back up all the files you want to transfer from the laptop then plug it into your desktop and put them into the file locations you want.

data is things like games saves, music, pictures, videos... Those you can copy over fine.
Executables, programs, apps just about all need to be reinstalled.
Steam & Original need to be reinstalled but you can point those to their games folders after you copy them in and most of the games will run fine.
If they have usb 3 (which would be ideal for what I would do) you could get a usb 2/3 to usb 2/3 cable plug one into your laptop, the other into your desktop then i believe you can just drag them over in the normal file explorer.
