Hey guys!

I'm having a weird problem that is absolutely beyond me.

After I installed my new graphics card (from HD6970 to GTX 970) I do not get any audio on the left channel. I've tried two different soundcards (onboard realtek and Asus Xonar DX PCI), two different headphones (both of which work perfectly fine on my phone), reinstalled the Xonar drivers, checked the audio balance in control panel/xonar software, restarted my rig several times.
Problem persists and I am left utterly clueless to what might be causing it.

Specs:

Windows 7 Professional 64bit
Asus P7P55
Intel i7-870 @2.93GHz
16GB Corsair Dominator DDR3
EVGA GTX 970

Thanks in advance,

Hasi

I have deactivated all the Nvidia related audio drivers, since I don't use them anyway. Also tried reinstalling audio drivers for the Xonar as well as for the Realtek onboard soundcard.
Also did a reinstall of the graphics card drivers including a registry cleanup after uninstalling.

The connection between headphones and PC are fine. The problem is reproducable on 2 different soundcards while the speakers/headphones work fine when plugged into my phone with the same cables.
I'm pretty sure it's a software related problem, it's just that I don't know how to fix it.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Kind regards,

Hasi

Try remove all audio drivers ---> Reboot --> Try with onboard sound only, see what happens !

One other thought:

If your sound card is surround sound, that means you have:

1 Jack for Front Speakres
1 Jack for Rear Speakers
1 Jack for "Surround" speakers
1 Jack for Center/Subwoofer
1 Jack for Line In
1 Jack for Mic In

It is possible you are plugging into the Center/Subwoofer jack instead of the Front Speakers out, which would explain why you only hear sound coming from one side.

Fault in asus xonar?

Uninstalled and removed all Nvidia related audio drivers.
Uninstalled Asus Xonar drivers and removed the card from my case.
Uninstalled Onboard sound drivers, rebooted PC.

Problem still persists. Also plugged into the right jack.

This is driving me insane.

Edit: Downloaded and installed onboard audio drivers from Asus website. Same issue as with the default windows drivers.

Hmm.. too bad :/

Have you checked the volume mixer? right click on the icon on the taskbar, and go properties. see if any ware all the way to the right.

It sounds (ha ha) like a mobo problem. Mobo seems to be pretty old, you might need to buy a new one.

Now you can usually get sound out of front and back I/O ports. Do different ports have a different result? If not then you'll need to get the mobo repaired or replaced.

OR

Try one more time reinstalling drivers

1. Click Start.
2. Type in Device Manager in the Start Search.
3. Expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers in the Device Manager Window.
4. Right click on the Device.
5. Click on Properties.
6. Click on Driver Tab.
7. Click on Uninstall drivers.
8. Click OK.
Now restart the computer and install the latest drivers and check if the issue still persists.
You may install the drivers from the manufacturer’s website from the link below: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=28&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=135&DownTypeID=1&GetDown=false&Downloads=true

I have tried absolutely everything you recommended to no avail. Except for trying the front panel jacks.. and they work. I'm feeling relieved and like an utter moron at the same time.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction, love you long time <3

Still don't understand why the problem carries across to my PCI Asus Xonar, but that's for another day. Already wasted enough hours on this as is.

Thanks.
Should I not have any luck with that, I'll probably opt for a USB soundcard for the time being.
