Solution
As this is a laptop, YES, you do need an i7 for gaming.
Basically, the 4710 and 4810 will result in similar performance. The 4910 will obviously give you a bit more breathing room. As that laptop in particular is large, with decent cooling, the X series are also quite doable and can OC nicely.

As for ram, 16GB is the minimum I would buy now. I made the mistake of getting a new AW 17 with 8GB of ram, and promptly got an "Out of Memory" message from Windows while trying to play Star Citizen. DO NOT get the 1333mhz ram though. Get the 1600's at a minimum. And see if they have one with decent timings. Try to avoid the 11-11-11 crap, if you can.

The 980's are BEAST. If you can, go for them. If not, get a machine that supports two, and get...

I am not a expert but from what I know
you dont need a i7 for gaming
but it depends how far into the future you want it to last
4-5 years then a i7 would be perfect
2-3 years then a i5 would suffice

but you dont have a i5 listed so i would say

Intel Core i7 4910MQ Quad-Core 2.90GHz (3.90GHz TurboBoost)

because it a bit better than 4810MQ by the 2MB L3 cache might be helpful for gaming

16GB would be enough
32GB would a overkill i think

as for graphics 980m is the clear winner
but 880m should be enough at single 8gb

Hope this helps
Have fun gaming...

Lastly, be sure to get a large SSD with it.
