Hey guys, I was dicking around with my computer the other day and I accidentally fried the motherboard (long story). I got around to replacing the motherboard today but I noticed a small block of text saying: Windows 8.1 Build 9600. Upon further inspection I noticed in the PC settings that it said my product key was being used in another PC.

For obvious reasons, I cannot replace the motherboard that used to be in the system and deactivate the product key for re-use. How can I go about transferring that license to this computer? Do I have to call Microsoft and deal with their tech support for an hour, or is there a simple fix?

In case its relevant, my specs are:
i5 4670k
Z97X Gaming 7 (old motherboard was a z87x ud3h) - Both Gigabyte
Windows 8 OEM (upgraded to 8.1)

Yeah, try phone activation, if the activation system determines you are not eligible to activate automatically you can speak with an Indian guy. Indian guys at M$ are usually helpful. Call should take maybe 15 minutes.

Your scenario is completely legitimate.
