Help choosing between 2 builds

I have a friend who wants to sell me an I7-4790k r9-280x 256gb ocz ssd 8gb ram asrock fatility mobo case and gs 800 watt psu for $800 and i can buy a monitor for $150 so $950 total

OR I can build one with i5-4690k msi z97 gaming mobo 8gb ram gtx 970 oc 1tb 7200 rpm hdd (no ssd) cx 750 corsair psu rosewill chalenger case with monitor around $1100

Was wondering whats best for the money for just gaming

Yea while the GPU is better in the 2nd one, the overall system is better in your friends and that is a good deal on it. I would personally go with your friends and just do some updates to it over time like adding an HDD for larger storage and in a few years upgrading the GPU. The SSD, CPU, RAM, etc. are solid and won't need changed ever unless they fail.
Either would work for gaming. The first is used, I assume.

I would recommend the second if you are OK with building it yourself. I would recommend using a different power supply though. You would be getting a new system with warranties on the components.
