Hello,

I just put together my new gaming rig and I'm getting a weird issue. It was running fine and now all of a sudden it restarts at "random." I put random in quotes because it only seems to do it when I use the internet.

I was watching twitch just fine for a while, downloading updates etc. I went to internet speed test and instant restart. Once back up I went right back to internet speed test to see if that for whatever reason triggered it. Instant restart. Next time I went to twitch and once I tried loading a stream, it restarted.

Also worth noting that it seems like the computer completely shuts off, then after a second reboots. I cannot seem to pinpoint an issue.

Here are the specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK ATX LGA1150
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 16GB DDR3 1866 MHZ
SSD: Crucial MX100 512GB 2.5"
HDD: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0
Case: Cooler Master Storm Stryker (White) ATX Full Tower
PSU: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular
OS: Windows 8.1 64bit

I am also using an ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-AC1900 PCI-E Adapter (PCE-AC68). Could that be causing it?

Also with the task manager up and a twitch stream my CPU spikes to 4.32ghz with no overclocking (it's 4.0ghz stock).

I'm at a loss.

Solution
It's your GPU. When using Chrome - Specifically twitch or speedtests etc. it uses Flash player.....which utilises your GPU. When you started a game....its using your GPU. Uninstall your current drivers and roll back or update them to different ones.

I've posted this same thing about 5 times today: Check for motherboard BIOS updates...that might help also.

If the problem persists, try underclocking your VRAM a little bit, to see if that makes a difference. the VRAM could be faulty. You can test it with this: http://www.ocbase.com/

Thank you very much! I was actually sitting in class thinking I should roll back the drivers. I will try that when I get home this evening and post the results!

Fiddled around with all kinds of stuff, ended up being that I needed to update the BIOS. The board came w version F4 and on Gigabyte's website they state that my CPu is supported with F5 and above. Problem solved!

Cool, glad you got it fixed! As I was saying, I've suggested to about 5-6 people on the forums recently about updating mobo bios! heh, it seems to be an ongoing thing.

~Now go and ride an elephant into battle! :p
