Hey all quick question.

I just installed a gigabyte x99 wifi mobo into my corsair 500r case.

However, as you can see in the image, there is a slight dip in the case where the mobo sits, and a sata power cable cannot reach it as it is the sata cable is hitting the bottom of the case and is too long to get into that dip where the plug is.

Has any1 else run into this? Is there a special adapter made specifically for this issue? i'm only running 1 980 right now but I really would like to get it hooked up as I plan to get a 2nd and I believe the 980 draws a lot of power as it is.

Thank you!

I'm not sure if its even needed, unless you are using a PSU that has multiple rails with a low over current protection limit. I mean if you were using 4 way sli then I can understand the need for it but I wouldn't think two way would. I haven't looked into it enough to go ahead and tell you not to use it though.

As for a specific cable, hmm they do make 90 degree power cables.

Might require taking the mobo out of the case, plugging in the cable, then reinserting the mobo to get it in there.

Use the motherboard offsets to make the motherboard sit higher. Then you should be able to plug them all in correctly without needing special 90 degree cables, besides, the 90 degree cables bend the other way, you wouldn't be able to use them any how, the other option, is to mod the case. Take a dremel to it, cut out the part where the cables come through and route them behind the board to the various devices.

I've never seen a case that has the motherboard that close to the backplate, there are always standoffs. It's so you don't short out your system. Plus, why would a major case manufacturer make a major case with that deep of a recess knowing that a lot of motherboards wouldn't work with it. OP, use the standoffs. They're copper, on your list of included parts, top of the page is standoffs. They should have come with your case.

My point was if the backplate lines up without the standoffs then once you put in the stand offs the GPU will be to far up for it to properly screw in since it has to sit in the mobo pci-e slot. If its lined up now it won't be when you raise up the motherboard since raising the motherboard = raising the GPU.

I am having trouble explaining this, I can visualize it in my head but not put it into words...

The standoffs will be brass not copper.

Yes I can agree with this as the ports are also very snug in the backplate, so if it raised up any more the ports would not fit in the backplate.

What would you suggest? Is there any sata power cable adapter that could work?

The graphics card can't be fitting in right, the case was designed to use the standoffs. Think about it for a second, if the motherboard is in the tray then the dustplate can't fit in the back, there would be no room, also, if the case was designed to use the offsets the OP has the *one* graphics card in the world that fits without the standoffs. Third, only reason I said copper is because that's what the CASE MANUAL says they are made of. Why would they include them if they weren't meant to be used? AND then not only included, but in the manual. This is a simple fix. Use the standoffs.

This is what the inside of my case looks like (not mine, but same thing):

If I were to put standoffs on those raised portions, I don't think anything would fit near the i/o panels....

I really don't know how to make this any clearer, if he is meant to be using standoffs and hes not using them (or vice-versa) then nothing would line up properly. (mobo's rear IO or PCI-E bracket)

As for solutions to this problem, Maybe you could use a 90 degree power cable but run it underneath the mobo to where you need it? I don't know how much space there is but it "might" work.
