So I just got this card which is running all the games more than great so far but there is a little sound coming out of it. Im pretty sure its the card and not the card ( I might be wrong ) but I did notice that when I'm changing the settings of a game and then apply them and the screen goes black and changes the settings the sound stops for the duration of the black screen then just resumes. The noise seems to be also while just browsing but the sound is lower.
Dunno what it is and its completely impossible for me to RMA it so if its nothing to worry about then I guess I will just keep using it.

Most likely you have coil whine, and the intensity increases/decreases every time the fan speed goes higher or lower depending on how much it`s used.
Why are you not able to RMA it?

Some poeple said that the noise goes away after a while, but I can`t promise you that...

" Im pretty sure its the card and not the card " isn't helping.

If its high pitched, then it'll probably be 'coil whine' which most manufacturers don't allow RMA anyway. If its a lower pitched noise, it could be the fans. test by stop one at a time when you hear the noise.

At i7Baby`s suggestion, I`m sure that Asus GPU Tweak allows you to play with the fans individually, and turn them up or down as you wish. This way you can better identify the noise.

Also, what model R9 280x is it?

Cant rma it because I had it shipped to me from a relative and that relative picked it up around 1 month ago and its hard for me to ship it back and do all the process.

Its the XFX one.

English isn't my native language so I may make some mistakes lol sorry

Downloaded afterburner and tried with 25% - 50% - 60% and the sound doesnt seem to increase or decrease. Gonna get some of the pc fans replaced this week and see if the problem persists since I got 1 fan pretty close to the gpu.

Ye I did hear them increasing/decreasing the speed. I tried to run a benchmark on rome 2 and when I alt tab the sound goes away and when i come it comes back but the fan speed just stays around 45%. Dont know if that means something. I made another thread with heaven benchmark results and they said that the score was perfectly fine with my rig so the card isnt under performing in any case. Hope this info helps. I'll try opening the case tomorrow and see whats going on.

Yeah just decided to open it to end my curiosity.. The sound is indeed coming from the gpu. The temps, speeds, performance is normal but the sound is there. Only thing that seems to shut the sound off is when applying ingame settings that make the screen go black for like a sec.. All I can say is that the sound isn't really annoying since it isn't that loud and I mean... If its a fault in the card then why does the temps / performance / fans seem to be doing alright?
