Hello guys,

Please could someone help me decide which graphics card to get. I understand my pc is now old but my options are buy new graphics card and upgrade ram. (already have an ssd)

I don't have much of a budget Around £100-120max. I use my pc mainly for work using some graphics designing programs and I play MMO type games.

My pc is a Dell XPS XPS 8300
8gb of ram
my card is GeForce GT 545 1gb GDDR

I was thinking something like this http://www.ebuyer.com/623631-asus-gtx-750-ti-oc-2gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-hdmi-pci-e-graphics-gtx750ti-oc-2gd5

Many thanks in advance :)

Yeah, it is a good choice. I'm pretty sure it's the best graphics card you can run with a 300W power supply.
If the Asus GTX 750 ti wasn't on sale, it would be better to pay more for the Evga FTW with ACX cooling (apparently needs a 400W power supply) and 118mhz high boost clock which is much better for the same price. But the Asus is in your budget, and looks better so that's also good :)
Make sure it fits in your case (it should).

thanks for your replies guys. Seems I have logged into a different tomshardware account of mine doh.

MADD. I may be able to get that Evga FTW. Is this the one you mean? http://www.ebuyer.com/621487-evga-gtx-750-ti-ftw-acx-2gb-gddr5-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-02g-p4-3757-kr Will 460w PSU be ok for this card and the one I linked above? Is the difference worth it?

Also I check my PSU and its 460w. Does this card and the first card i linked further up run on one square type power socket(sorry i dont know the word for that type of connection)

I'm very grateful for all your advice, tyvm

Rick

The XPS models have good quality power supplies and you should have a 6 pin PCIe power cable in it. Instead of the 750Ti you can get a R7 260X for quite a bit less with the same performance. The 750 Ti is a good product but much of it's goodness is due to the fact that it is fast for the wattage it uses. Since you have a decent power supply, you can go with a cheaper card that is just as fast.

The only other plus in your case is that your card and the 750 are both nVidia, no driver change is needed.

I don't know if I'm sounding dumb but I prefer a Radeon HD 7790

http://www.hwcompare.com/17295/geforce-gtx-750-ti-vs-radeon-hd-7790/

If you want 2GB of DDR5 in your Video Card then this is a bad choice, on www.amazon.com you can find HD 7790s for about $100
And if you want a better quality (not cooling) just spend an extra 20 euros (correct me if I'm wrong) for a better HD 7790

Oh I got majorly confused, you have a GT 545?

Yeah than the HD 7790 will dominate your GT 545
Unless you want 2GB of DDR5 RAM in your system your should go with the GTX 750TI (The HD 7790 will still beat the 750TI)

Yeah i currently have th GT 545 (1gb version)
My worry with the HD 7790 is the power consumption according to that 'vs' link you gave me its alot higher than the 750ti. My PSU says 'MAX POWER 460W'.

Thanks again for help I plan to order a card tomorrow

Yeah, that's the one I'm talking about.
As long as it's a good quality 460W (usually 80+ certified if it's good) the GTX 750 ti will work no problem.

The Evga GTX 750 ti FTX ACX Requirements
Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 20 Amps.)
An available 6-pin PCI-E power connector and an available 8 pin PCI-E power connector

The Asus GTX 750 ti
up to 150W1 additional 6 pin PCIe power required

As long as you meet the requirements for the Evga FTW card, it would be worth spending more if you can. I've heard that the ACX cooling works really well, and the 750 ti doesn't put out much heat anyway so it seems kinda overkill but maybe you could even overclock it further (although it is already overclocked much higher than the Asus card)

It doesn't look like the HD 7790 is better than the GTX 750 ti.

This would be a good buy if you had a better PSU

I currently have the standard Dell 460W. I have no idea how good it is. So how about this PSU http://www.ebuyer.com/546620-coolermaster-g-series-700w-fully-wired-80-bronze-power-supply-rs700-acaab1-uk AND this card that you recommend http://www.ebuyer.com/581413-msi-r9-270x-gaming-2gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-graphics-r9-270x-gaming-2g?affid=78888&affname=Skimbit&awc=2690_1421376238_9b1b054112e82f9595bf399cd14faed4. would I have all the connections I need molexs/sats ect.

I'm not sure how good that PSU is. It doesn't seem to have a review of it by JonnyGuru, you can't really trust it unless you can find some trusted website which has reviewed it.

Something like this which is a better unit - 5 year warranty, semi modular

Or if you got the money, this would be the best value PSU you can get - 10 year warranty, fully modular
