New Built PC does not detected HDD

Hi there, I have recently built this system:

Athlon 860K
4GB RAM
HD 6770
Corsair CX 750M(I know inefficient but it was just sitting around my home)

WD 1TB HDD

I am able to get the PC turning on however when I attempt to install windows the HDD is not detected by windows installer or the bios, the CD drive however is.

I have tried plugging the Sata cable into a different port as well as checking the power cable was in correct and still the HDD is not detected, what exactly haven't I done with the brand new HDD that I needed to?

Solution

The new drive should still be detected within BIOS even if it is not formatted yet. So if you cannot see it there then something is not right. Do like I said and update your motherboard bios, however you will probably have to download the bios update from a different PC and put it onto a bootable USB stick. The motherboard website has a guide on doing this here

If it is still not detecting the new hard drive and if it is not detecting on another PC, then you might need to RMA it.

trying a different cable if that fails i'll try it in another PC.

Do you think it's because the drive isn't formatted or something that it isn't detected, it is literally brand new fresh out of the box(as all of the pc components are)
