Hi guys.

My son dropped my Macbook Pro and now its harddrive is damaged. I installed several data recovery software (trial version) and i could see the missing files. But i couldn't find a data recovery program which is completely free.

Do you know any?

Thanks in advance.

If the drive is actually damaged, data recovery may not be able to get to the files to get them back. Those data recovery programs work on files that were deleted or a formatted drive, not one that was physically damaged. The only free utilites I know of are for Windows systems not MACs.

There is some stuff listed here but I have never tried any of them http://www.apowersoft.com/recuva-alternative-for-mac.html

Even if the program can list the files, does not mean it will actually recover them. At times all you get is the file name with a corrupt file.

Dropping the machine will have caused some damage to the hard drive heads. If there are errors because of this on the disk then this will escalate. You could end up losing the data.

I know the data can be recovered by DiskEng by their recovery software http://www.diskeng.com because it seeks errors on the disk and critically "predicts" errors as data is copied and recovered. good luck
