I thinking of upgrading my pc (use it for gaming) and I'm kinda confused whether to go for core i7 4790k or wait for the skylake cpus. The issue here is that skylake will use ddr4 memory and that..well unfortunately implies ddr3 will more or less be obsolete and I want to be future proof for say 2 years and since broadwell is not anymore appealing being a tick upgrade. Also what's it that skylake will support both ddr3 & 4 by uniDIMM? So, is there going to be any great improvements over 4790k?

Skylake is worth a wait but it wont come this year. First comes broadwell / K / E, then we might see skylake and mainstream ddr4 support.

If you need a PC now, go for it. You might end up waiting for quite a long time...

If you only plan to run one or two video cards(sli/xfire) then the i7 4790k will handle it with ease anyway. Even an i5 4690k won't bottleneck two cards right now afaik.... You would easily be good for 2/3 years IMO.
