How can I make my computer faster? Help.

I just downloaded Crysis 3 and on high settings with vsync on and anti aliasing off. I usually get 60 fps but it will drop down to 50 fps alot and even 30 fps at times (mainly when in large open areas).
On Battlefield 4 I got around 50 - 60 fps sometimes dropping.

I just bought my graphics card new on Amazon so I really don't want to replace it. I was considering getting an AMD based motherboard and a AMD cpu. Would that help alot?

CPU: Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.20GHz (4 cores)
GPU: Sapphire TRI-X OC R9 290
RAM: 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz
MOBO: Hewlett-Packard 2AF7
PSU: Corsair 750 watt (bronze sticker)

Yes I took a HP Pavilion 500 PC Series and replaced the power supply and graphics card.

Solution
Just lower the settings a bit, although the frame rates you get are just fine for games as they are. Not worth upgrading a basically new system when the current one is running fine.

Those frame rates don't exactly sound bad? Also that i5 is about as fast a gaming processor as you can get (the AMD chips are generally slower than a 4460, so switching won't help).

What screen resolution are you running at? Very high resolution screens will slow your frame rates down. Also v-sync will cap your upper rates at 60hz to match your monitor, and should drop them to 30 if the card can't keep up at 60 (to keep them in time with your screen refresh). If your looking for higher rates turn vsync off.

In battlefield you can probably boost your fps a bit by trying the 'mantle' option in settings (specific to AMD graphics cards, the 290 should get a boost from it), though I've heard many people say that whilst the average rates are better it can stutter a bit more in places.

Im running at 1920 x 1080

Well looking up at benchmarks the results sound in line with what you'd expect from a R9 290 in those games:

If you need very high frame rates then you'll need to lower settings. Generally if your *minimum* frame rate is above 30 then it's considered pretty good, though I know some high level shooter players want rates higher than this (in which case you'll have to sacrifice quality to get there).

So I should save up for the newest nvidia card?

Probably not much point right now... Nvidia gtx 980 (their current fastest) isn't that much faster than your 290 (15 to 20% tops).

You'd need to go dual gpu to get a big boost, so buying a second 290 might be a good option. Attentively new cards are due this year that should be a bigger step up, so maybe save up and wait for the new kit.
