Unallocated Drive Error

Bought a 1TB WD-B HDD and it was working well, I already head a 500GB Drive so I just used the TB as Space. My 500GB started acting up, so I cloned it over to my TB. That didn't work too well, so I just reformatted it and have been making do with my 500gb.

I want to try and Clone it again using Western Digital's Cloning/Imaging Service, I downloaded it and am ready to clone, but it cant clone to an unallocated drive.

Start > Manage > Disk Management, I see my drive, Right click, Create new Volume, follow the steps, press Finish and the Access Denied error appears. I am set as admin and all of that too...
I've checked for Drivers, those are up to date (as far as windows says). One thing I noticed, when I go into the properties of the drive under Volume tab, Partition Style is set to MBR (Master Boot Record). Is that normal? Did my first clone do something that is stopping me from allocating?

Hey there, Calotron!

I'm sorry to see that you are encountering such issues with the WD Black HDD.
Did you resolve your issue already?
If the second time was successful, it's most probably because you were logged in as a normal user, while such changes demand a user with administrative privileges. I think this is why you were unable to format it the first time, but completed the mission on the second try.
If you want a peace of mind, you can test the drive using Data LifeGuard diagnostics tool and see if everything is okay with it.
It will let you know what's the health and S.M.A.R.T. status of the HDD.
Here's a link to the utility: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=bcW3S8

Hope this helped. Let me know if there's anything! :)

Hey all, in regards to these steps of creating a simple volume: If the "unallocated" HDD already has data on it and you create a simple volume without formatting it, will you be able to see the data that was already on the drive. I'm having this issue and I think my partition table was destroyed. I've tried testdis and acronis and I can't seem to recover a partition or volume. any help would be appreciated. I didn't create a simple volume yet as I am unsure as to what it may do. My next step is to go buy a 3TB hard drive and clone or image the drive before I start again.
