WD Caviar 1TB not recognized any longer by motherboard. I hear beeps. It is not a system drive. My 3 other hard drives work fine.
Is it dead?

Windows 7 64bit. AHCI.

Solution
The noise you heard must be generaged by head of the hard drive. Since it can't be detected by motherboard, it is dead. And you need to replace it with a new one.

Hi there ddpaulb,

I would suggest you to swap cables and ports and see whether the issue persists. Trying it on another system will not hurt as well.
If nothing from the before mentioned steps help, I guess the drive is dead. In case you have important data on it, you may need to contact a data recovery company.
