I recently purchased a creative labs sound blaster audigy fx 5.1 from amazon. I am having multiple issues with it. After "upgrading" from my on board audio (asrock b85m pro4) I experienced no performance increase. I use ath m50 headphones. After gaming, listening to headphone tests, plugging in my Lav, handheld, and shotgun microphone I experienced very little to no performance increase. The only real difference I found was plugging in my atr 6550 to the sound card on mic in. Not only this, but I also started to receive a hissing noise every time I moved my mouse around. I couldn't solve it in my settings, so I decided to reboot and see if that did anything (turn it on and off right?). When I rebooted I got a BSOD. Is there anything I'm missing? I updated drivers. I uninstalled it and I'm seriously consider selling/ possibly returning it.

Solution
If you do not hear a benefit and do not like it, return it. the ath-m50's do not benefit much from an amp, and it would be better to get an external DAC. The hissing could be electrical interference along the signal path, or the psu, and the external DAC would help with that.
