Are there any alternatives to an anti static wrist band? My build parts came in recently and I want to start building it straight away however I have read many articles and they suggested to buy an anti static wrist band. I don't particularly want to buy one even though it costs a couple of dollars because its too much of a problem and plus I will only use it once during this build.

I also read that carpet can conduct static electricity very well. Would placing a plastic mat on top of the carpet stop the conduction?

Are there any other ways to solve this problem without damaging my pc parts?

Wearing shoes or trainers ect will help, you dont need a plastic mat. If you want to be extra safe just use the box that came with the stuff to stand on. Agreed with touching tha case to discharge yourself or any metal appliance or bare pipe in the home. Assemble your main board on the box it came in to avoid damage to the board. TBH the only part that needs extra caution is the CPU installation. Dont wear baggy clothes made from wool ect when assembling lol
