AMD PHENOM Quad core into a Dell Inspiron with AMD Triple core

Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 546s with an amd Phenom triple core cpu and i got an AMD Phenom quad core HD985ZXAJ4BGH CPU. THEY ARE BOTH SAME SOCKET TYPE BUT I THINK ONE CPU IS AM2+ and other cpu is just AM2. Will the quad core listed above work in a Dell Inspiron 546s slim tower? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Isn't am2+ backwards compatible? If I'm correct, am2 and am2+ should work in an am2+ mobo. If the new Phenom is am2+ and the old is not, then it may or may not work;most likely the latter.
