i got the MSI Radeon R7 260 OC 1gb gddr5 128bit gpu on an old g41d3c motherboard with 2GB ram and a core2duo e8400!

The current PSU has 350w, it runs stable while gaming , but im afraid that it will eventualy fry the system!

The recommendations for this card are 450w, sadly i have a really tight budget! Can anybody suggest anything cheap? Thanks

there is a lot of fear mongering going on with psu's BLOWING UP AND BURNING DOWN YOUR HOUSE!!! they do fail but when they do it is usually just the system turning off and never on again. i explain it like this. there are millions of prebuilt pc's in the world with these low quality psu's installed and millions more with cheap crap model psu's in them. if there was any truth to these fears they spread, we would see daily stories from somewhere in the world about a pc catching fire. it's just simple statistics. if they fail at the rates people want you to believe and in the way people want you to believe, there would be thousands a day in the world and how many of these stories have you read lately? in the last year? EVER?

anyway, here...

This is the cheapest half-decent PSU I can find http://shop.imtec.ba/napojne-jedinice/15196-thermaltake-psu-530w-smart-se.html#

I only looked on Imtec though as it was the only website I could find. If you know of any others, let me know!

if it makes you feel any better i have an r9-270 running on a 375w psu with a quad core q6600 and 4 gb ram. it runs great and i have no concerns of the psu blowing up and burning down my house :)

the 260 uses about 40w less than my 270. i would think you would be ok using it as is for now. if you are going to upgrade the psu, then 550w would be the minimum i would get. this way when you upgrade that gpu again, you won't be worried about if the psu can handle it. it will carry over to a new system as well saving you that cost.

to get a low watt psu now only fixes a problem that i am not sure exists anyway and still has you buying a new psu at the next upgrade.

plywrlw, Math Geek, thanks for your help folks,

plywrlw, we in Bosnia often buy things from Pik.ba, its something like E-bay, it can be pretty cheap! ;)

Math Geek, Thats a relief, i was so afraid of the psu blowing up! Reading through other forums its always like: ''IT WILL FRY< BLOW UP.....'' A huge rock has fallen from my heart after i read your comment!

anyway, here is a list of recommended brands. get yourself something from the top 2 or 3 tiers and you won't have any worries http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html again i suggest something at least 550w to ensure you can use it with the next upgrade.

cheap psu's are not death traps but there is no reason to use one if you don't have to :)
