I just got this new samsung 850 pro 512gb ssd in the mail from tigerdirct.com on monday 1-12-15.
installed in my desktop pc and installed windows 8 pro 64bit to it.
started to run great and fast even bootup fast too.
1st and 2nd installment was MBR partition then the 3rd installment I got to be gpt after setting the drive as sat 0: with my other two drives disconnected.
then I reconnected them so I could get the drivers needs for motherboard and camera and wacom pen display and to install games and photoshop, manga studio 5 and sketchbook.
plus video card drivers.
then I did windows 8 pro updates and after my 2nd run of updates the system would go to boot to the ssd and the screen was black not going to windows 8 startup screen.
so I rebooted after waiting about 30 to 45 minutes and it came up with a boot up error for winload.exe

so I tried doing the bootrec/fixboot and bootrec/fixmbr and bootrec/rebuildbcd and none of them worked.
so I had to do a clean install again and it went but then it made me redo it again ..grrr
now I got windows 8 pro installed on it but for how long ?
I am about to RMA this ssd drive and go back to the older model 840 evo ..
cause I have a 250gb samsung 840 evo ssd and that one seems to keep the windows on it longer.
and able to do restore point on it.
the 850 pro couldnt even do restore on it and I made a restore point on it too.
by the way I am on the surface pro 2 tablet to post this so any typing error is cause of that using built in keyboard.

" I have a 250gb samsung 840 evo ssd and that one seems to keep the windows on it longer."

You mean that if you install Windows on that you have the same problem, only it works for a while longer before failing? I would strongly suspect that there is something wrong with either the hardware or with your windows installation. Did the Windows installation disk come with the machine? Is it a pure Win8 installation or one specific to the machine? What kind of drive came in the machine in the first place, and did it run properly from that?

I built my own desktop pc with the parts I wanted for it.
the only thing new is the two samsung ssd drives other then that old hhd drives never had an issue with cor either mbr or gpt partitions of windows 8 pro 64bit. oem
I dont buy brand name pcs unless its a tablet.
desktop pcs I custom build my self cause desktop pcs have and can have more power then crappy laptops !
my system mbo: asus crossair v formula-z : 32gb viper quad channel ram, radeon R9 xfx 270X video card, acer 10 point touch screen monitor + regular acer monitor + wacom citiq 13" pen display.
the ssd you know off, my hhd is 3tb wd.
CPU: Am3+ Amd 8 core FX 9590, liquid cooling corsair H100i..
have set to the 2nd default speed setting for 5.0GHZ

I read on other forum boards it might be the Samsung Magician software doing it.
when using over provisioning settings.
