I'm planning a new build for a HTPC/DVR/Media Server build and am slightly hung up on what to do for a tuner. I'm torn on whether to use a stand-alone type (e.g. HDHomeRun) or internal PCIe TV Tuner Card.
The plan is to use either XBMC or Windows Media Player (or other software if suggested) and have the HTPC act as a replacement for a set top box/DVR. The media server portion would also be networked to be available to the rest of the devices in the house (smart TV's, tablets, smartphones, computers, etc).
Is there a specific card/software combo that is known to work very well for this type of arrangement that has a good, simple interface? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
