HWMonitor is only showing the package temp for my AMD A8 5500 APU, from my understanding, the package temp is irrelevant and it's the core temp that matters? Any programs that can give an accurate reading for this APU? Or is this accurate and it's just running really hot?

P.S. I also tried HWInfo which gave me two temp reading for my cpu. One being CPU 0 and the other Package.... The package temp was on par with HWMonitor, maxing around 70-74c, but the CPU 0 Temp maxed out around 20 C when idle.

Solution
The only "core" measurements for your processor are for the electrical side of things. The "Package" temperature is the one you want to look at, and yours looks normal for your processor with a stock cooler.

Ok thanks, so even though the TJ Max for this APU is listed at 70c, it's safe to go over that?

Chances are that nothing will happen besides it throttling itself to keep cool, but its better to not risk it. Invest in a 3rd party cooler, or if you don't want to spend money, open the side of your case in CPU-intensive environments. Just be sure to keep it clean.
