How do I know what can support what?

Hey everyone,

So I have minimum knowledge and experience with computers and I have some quick questions. I am planning to upgrade my computer to allow some gaming such as Tomb Raider etc.

What I have planned:
- To get dual screens
- A better video card/graphics card???

So my questions are the following:
- How do I know what screens to get?
- How will I know which screens can be supported by the video card (not sure if its the video card that supports it)?
- Whats the difference between a video card and graphics card? Should I be concerned?
- How do I know which graphics card to get that will be an upgrade from mine?
- How can I upgrade my motherboard if possible?

I do appreciate any help I can get since I am very new at this! Thank you in advance!

I'm not trying to avoid your questions, but since you are planning a pretty expensive upgrade, I would advise against upgrading the old LGA 775 socket/DDR2 system and building new from scratch instead. Since you seem to be comfortable upgrading the MB, you obviously will have no issue building your own from scratch. What would be your top budget for a new PC?

Hello and thank you for the reply.

My budget would be around $650 if I do build a new one from scratch.
