Hi guys!
Following advice received here I will upgrade my computer. Im looking into getting into hobby/semiprofesional video editing. I need this rig to allow me to edit some 4k video.
At the moment the money is tight so I will "recycle" as many components as I can from my current build.
I have a sabertooth 990x R2.0. I purchased a Cooler master HAF XB evo. I currently have 8 gigs of ram and ordered 8 more. Im set for HD and GPU.
Since I cant really afford to build a whole new intel set up yet, I decided that I will go with the fx9590. I have been reading a little about this guy and the one thing I know I HAVE to do is to water cool.
I am pretty new when it comes to computer and I have no idea where to start. Given my MOBO, CPU and case combo.. What would you Pc-gods advice?
Thanks!

:)

Regards!

Gilberto

Solution
The Swiftech H220X is a good choice as it allows further upgrades after the initial loop (if you wanted to put a memory/gfx block on ETC.

I think you need a case upgrade if you want to pull off this sort of rig. I would recommend going for a Swiftech h220 or h320 AiO liquid cooler, and find a case that can fit it with plenty of air flow. Have a look at Fractal Design cases, Corsair Carbide Air 540, or Thermaltake Core V21.

Also, I think it would be very much worth it to go the Intel i7 path instead of FX9590.

Thanks 20Salmon.

I will go down the Intel route once I can afford to start a rig form the ground up. For now, this is all I can do :(

I just checked part picker and the 220 will fit on the EVO. I have plenty of fans from my current build. Dont you think it can hold and allow me to get some work done? Then, if the "bussines" pick up Ill probably invest on a new build from the ground up.

Thanks again :)

Okay cool. Are you going to do any overclocking? I've read plenty of places that if you are going the AMD route, there is not much point in getting anything above FX-8320 and overclocking it, so you could save some money by doing that. This is true for gaming, but I am unsure if this is true for video editing as well.

It seems I underestimated your case, it actually looks pretty good. I'm considering getting it myself for my next upgrade now :)

Yeah, I read the same. But I never did any overclocking and the task seems a little daunting :D
I guess I could try and save me a few euros.
Can you advice me on a thread or webpage where I could start reading on it?
Another problem I have is:
I live on a pretty small flat with my GF and in her own words " There is no way that ugly ass big box is going anywhere near my living room" So im pretty limited on my choice of box. Not only have to fit the bill, it also has to look "pretty" :D

If I choose the 8320 and overclock, will the 220 cooler still be good?

Also, this side proyect is only for a little extra income, It will not be my main bussines, so I dont really have a problem if the rendering of the videos takes a few minutes longer. My main worry is that the PC will run vegas, render my videos and be stable. Speed is secondary :)

Thanks a lot for you advice :)

the Swiftech H220 will be more than good enough to overclock the FX-8320, and you don't need to overclock it by much. It is a very common CPU to overclock, and a popular choice so a quick google search with "FX-8320 overclock guide" will give you plenty of info. I would highly recommend going for an ASUS motherboard that is recommended for overclocking, like z97 series. ASUS makes overclocking easy for first-timers.

It is also vital to have a high quality power supply if you want to overclock. Refer to this list for advice on picking a good one:

PS: I have a similar home situation where my gf demands that my computer case looks representable. She has approved of the following small form factor cases: Corsair Carbide Air 240 and Thermaltake Core V21

Thanks!
My power supply is a seasonic 650 so I think Im good "for now".
Do you think my sabertooth 990X V2 can get the job done for now? If everything goes according to plan I will definately build I system for the ground up, intel oriented and will not try to save a buck, but for now, and as a test, my goal is to get going with the least possible expense.

I really appreciated your advice :)

Your motherboard is pretty good actually, so an overclocked FX-8320 will be a nice inclusion. your PSU is also good enough. I guess all that remains is getting more RAM (make sure it's the exact same model as your current RAM), a cooler, and then spend the rest of your money on a graphics card (or wait with thsi if your current one is sufficient for your needs)

For ram I have 4 x 4 sticks of Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1600
And I will order the 220 as you recomended.
The graphic card I have currently is not the best but I read rendering video is mostly cpu invasive. A good card will definately speed things up a little but I dont think its essential at this point. Definately on my to get list though :)
Thanks!
