Recently started over clocking my cpu, and the temps seem just way too high for my set up, like something isn't quite right. It's only a 4.4ghz over clock but while running Prime95 the temps jump up to around 80c (84c was highest, 76c was lowest of 4 cores). It seems to be stable, haven't had a problem with Prime95.

My cooling system is
Pump - XSPC D5 Vario (1200lph)

Radiator - Magicool 120mm http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/p/Magicool-SLIM-SINGLE-120-Radiator_11021.html

CPU water block- Magicool http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/p/Magicool-CPU-MC-Block-Copper-Rev-2-775-1156-1366--AM2--AM3_11013.html

(I upgraded my pump from a 'complete set')

Thermal Paste I'm using seems to be okay, was the best stuff in the shop with good transfer rate. Can thermal paste become bad after some time?

Overclocking Settings

cpu ratio: all core
All core: 44
BCLK: 100.
Spread spectrum: disabled
Intel speedstep: enabled
turbo boost: enabled
additional turbo voltage: +0.020V
Internal PPL Overvolt: disabled
Power saving mode: disabled
CPU voltage: Fixed mode
Fixed voltage: 1.300v
Cpu load line calibration: level 1.

if I've missed anything important out sorry.

Appreciate any help!

OC'ing a given chip is never a sure thing: sometimes a chip will run well at 4.4 GHz sometimes its twin will be unstable. I have OC'd my 3570K to 4.6, but have backed off to 4.0 because of the extra longevity that I expect (by not over stressing the CPU). I use the Antec 100 H20 Closed Loop Cooler.

Running Prime 95 and getting 80 Celsius is not bad. Your temp seem to be in the acceptable range, if not a little cooler than the norm. I have seen others OC'ing the 3570K at 4.4 GHz and crashing out (or throttling down) because of high heat. The chip has a thermal limit of 100 C and stressing it at 80 is well within operational limits (but not if it were not being stressed).

I would advise you to back down to 4.2 or 4.0 GHz unless...

I would advise you to back down to 4.2 or 4.0 GHz unless the extra horsepower is needed to preserve the operational longevity of the chip. But if you need to OC it that high then your readings are well within expectations.

Keep Calm and OC.

Dropped the clock speed to 4.4ghz, lowered the voltage to 1.24 (fluctuates between 1.232 and 1.240) temp now staying below 80c in prime95. Will have to wait for a second rad before I look to achieve anything higher. Cheers for the reply, was of great help!
