Hello,

Just this morning for some reason, my hard drive, is not showing up on my computer. It was there fine last night and when I woke up this morning, I went to open iTunes and it said check path D:iTunes it does not exist.

So I went to my computer and only my C drive is showing up. I have another hard drive that has 1TB of memory but its not showing up.

I researched some and went into the bios and it doesn't look like its showing up there either.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Try unplugging your cables to that drive and plugging them back in. If that doesn't work, then try changing the SATA port on your Motherboard. If either of those don't work, reply and let me know!

Those purple ports are SATA ports. All you'll have to do is disconnect the cable and reconnect it in a different open SATA port. Of course, it may or may not be that same color, as it all depends on what kind of mobo you have. If I were you, I'd try disconnecting and then reconnecting the drive to your mobo and disconnect and reconnect the power to the drive. If that doesn't work, then change the SATA ports. Keep in mind, however, that the drive won't be Drive D anymore, so you might have to change some paths in some programs after you change ports (If you have to)

Thanks,

I opened up the computer and switched them to 2 different ports, there were 4 total and I switched them to 2 black ones, restarted the computer and it's still missing. It's strange, I haven't done anything different, no power outages or anything and just all of a sudden it's not there.

Do you have any other ideas or suggestions?

Hmm...have you disconnected the power from the HDD as well and reconnected it? Also, have you noticed any strange noise coming from your computer at all? (Clicking, buzzing, humming, etc)

Thanks for the help dude I really appreciate it.

I'll try and disconnect the power.

Yes, on starting the computer there's a strange repetitive sound that comes on for about 10 seconds like a humming, then stops, then humming, stops, etc.

Before it would just hum once and that was it.

I opened it up again, disconnected the power to the hard drive and tried switching the ports again, still nothing.

It's a seagate 2TB hard drive if that helps at all. If the drive is bad, is there anything to do for it, or it has to be replaced?

Eh....that doesn't sound too good. If the drive gets recognized by the computer by some chance, immediately take all important files from it and put it on your other drive. After that, take it into a computer shop and have them inspect the drive (They can't open it, but they can plug it into another computer and try to figure out what's going on and if it's fixable). If the drive doesn't get recognized then take it into the shop and see if they can take the files off the drive before it bites the dust for good

Really sorry to hear you're having this problem man. This kind of situation ranks up there on my list of "computer things that make me sick to just think about". But on the bright side, the files might be salvageable.

Ok, thanks for your help guys.

If I buy a new hard drive, is it really straight forward, just plug and play type thing?

I'll see what I can do about getting my files salvaged off of it.

Thanks again.

Yeah. It's as simple as plugging it in and going for it. But be sure to get your HDD inspected before you buy a drive. It could just be a bent prong or something wacky like that. If you do decide to purchase a new HDD, be sure to buy it without an OS installed.

I doubt a pin got bent over night, and where do you get a new drive with an OS on it? Sorry for your luck. If you really need the data you could try replacing the pcb.

I have done this successfully in the past but you are risking it just not working depending on the damage to the drive.

Hey guys,

I went and bought a new hard drive and plugged it into my comp and it recognized it fine, so I guess my old HDD is just fried.

It's still not showing up on My Computer.

So I went to the Disk Management and it says "You must initialize a disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it"

and it shows Disk 0 with a check next to it.

Then it says which partition style should I use MBR or GPT. Which one should I pick?

Thanks
