Hey guys and gals, I'm looking for some help troubleshooting some computer issues. This is a new build (>1 mo old) and I've been getting full system lockups during the last few days. I'm having trouble figuring out what exactly is going on, so any advice is greatly appreciated. Here's the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ClockworkOJ/saved/Bs2zK8. The OS is Windows 8.1.

I almost always get a full system freeze that requires a hard reset when I try to launch a game. However, I've also gotten freezes from running Prime95 and plugging a USB into the front panel. I've also had some issues where the computer would not turn on from hibernation mode (although, I'm not sure if the screen just wasn't turning on). I also had an issue the other day where I booted the computer and got a red glitchy screen that took a few resets to remove. It's also worth noting that I was getting graphical glitches in games when the system was running more smoothly.

So far I've run memtest86 and found no errors. I also ran the Windows Disk utility and found no errors on either drive. The unreal engine benchmark ran fine and so did the realbench utility, although I only did one pass on each. Both the CPU and GPU were overclocked. I've since reset the GPU to factory settings, but am still getting system locks. When I have some time tonight I'll reset the CMOS and try running Prime95 again on stock settings. Do y'all have any suggestions? (FYI the mobo doesn't have a video out and I do not have access to another video card to test, so neither of those are viable options for me)

Thanks!

So, last night I reset the CMOS. I managed to get through a full usage session without any lockups (thank goodness!) However, I am still getting graphical glitches during games. Now, I'm familiar with benchmarking utilities like unengine, but are there tools for detecting graphics card errors (in the same way that Prime 96 or Intel Burn test will report CPU logic mistakes?) I have a suspicion that there may be an issue with the graphics card, especially considering my most played game, League of Legends, is not very graphically taxing. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

You detect graphics card problems visually usually. Even when you overclock a graphics card, the process is mostly visual.

Your graphics card probably has one of a few problems.
1. It is overclocked too far, either by the manufacturer or you. You can try turning it down.
2. It needs more voltage to maintain the clock speeds it is using.
3. It is getting too hot.
4. The card is just bad, something is wrong and you should RMA it if you can.

What graphics card is it? This will help us.

The GPU is a Sapphire Radeon R9 280 3GB Dual-X (my full build is in the OP if that helps). I don't think overclocking is the issue as I've reset it to factory settings (which included an overclock, but a VERY modest one. <50 GHz iirc).
