Hyper 212 evo came with wrong nut?

The problem is that my MB is an LGA 1150.

Three of my bolts can be screwed into three nuts but the other one is slightly taller and the hole is smaller. I think that one is for the LGA 2011?

What should I do?

You should have 4 nuts all the same size. If not they made a mistake in packaging, I'd contact coolermaster and let them know. Wouldn't suggest trying to force the wrong nut as it'll probably damage the threads on the bolt. You could try finding a replacement nut of the same size from a hardware store but you might be in for a long search if it's an oddball size (not sure what size and it's probably metric). Don't try and run it with only 3 attached, it won't cool your cpu. Hopefully cm will send you a new one quickly.

If I recall correctly, there were 4 hex nuts, 4 hex nut shaped barrel nuts with female threads on one side and male threaded nipples on the other. They go through the motherboard with the nipples pushing from the front of the motherboard to the rear, pass through the back plate, then the 4 nuts attach on the back to secure the back plate. This leaves 4 standoffs on the front of the motherboard with female threads to accept the screws with the springs that are already on the expandable "X" bracket that fits across the base of the cooler tower. They're supposed to be matched though, 4 barrel nut standoffs with male threads and 4 matching nuts. If they sent you 3 matching nuts and 1 oddball, they messed up.

Here's a pic of the contents that should have come with it.

Yeah, I got all the contents but it's just one nut that is wrong.

If I contact them how long would it take and would it only be them needing to send me one nut through post etc..?

Where did you buy it? It might be faster to deal with the retailer.

Personally, I would just go to the hardware store and not bother. Take the threaded part and the nut to the store. Shouldn't be that hard to find a compatible thread.

I'm not sure what size they are. They would need to have similar outer dimensions and the thread size/pitch would need to be the same. If you go that route just be sure the thread pitch is the same since a similar but not identical thread pitch will feel like it's starting ok but inevitably jam up after a few threads and if you force it will probably strip the bolts. They're pretty small bolts and likely soft with those fine threads. If you damage the threads you'll be replacing multiple parts since it's not a standard bolt but a standoff with male and female threads.

I'd just recently installed one of these on another system and tried looking through all the paperwork. Cooler master doesn't specify the thread size anywhere, it just says 'standoffs' and 'standoffs (2)' for the socket 1150 and 2011. Pretty vague, maybe if you call their support line someone can find that info for you.

Fuuuuuuk, this nut is stopping me from completing my build, they said it would take 1-2 weeks to deliver a nut.. wtf

Well.. I guess I contacted them with the address and have to wait 1-2 weeks (No clue why it takes so long to travel from netherlands to the UK, but it's probably tons less troublesome than repacking my current one and then sending it back etc etc..

That sucks. I wish they'd do something like send an e-voucher or something good for any local retailer to comp you a new one, just take back the box and parts with the wrong nut and trade it out. There would be much more customer friendly options than waiting up to 2 weeks for something silly yet critical like a nut to get there. Hopefully it arrives sooner than later and that's just a gross over estimation of delivery time.

They said they sent it on Monday so I am praying it comes tomorrow.
It shouldn't take more than one week imo, I don't know why it would take so long for it to travel from the Netherlands to the UK. The distance isn't that far.

None that I know of without using a nut. Even though those threads are small and it doesn't seem like much, it will produce far more tension/pressure than anything else. Firm contact is needed to make sure heat transfers properly from the chip to the heatsink, without it temps will be quite high most likely. I take it the nut is still mia? Hopefully it gets there soon.

I ordered the same CPU cooler from Amazon this past weekend and it just arrived today. Unfortunately just like you one of four hex machine nuts is unthreaded making it unusable. Didn't notice until after I tried assembling the heatsink mount to the motherboard. I did have a problem with another nut, but messed around with it to finally get it on there. However I did notice that unlike two of the perfectly fine hex nuts the threading was rather light (barely there) on the one that finally worked.

I just sent a replacement parts request via cooler master's website. Hate it when this happens. :(

That's unfortunate and somewhat amazing. I used to buy nuts and bolts in bulk for a repair shop and I think already both of you have had more issues with a product that contains only 4 nuts (rather than by the hundreds/thousands). Hopefully they get their quality control in check. I realize it's a budget cooler but wow.

Following up to my problem. I found a usable hex nut two days after my earlier post that matched the correct diameter and threading as the standoffs, it was just a spare hex screw nut I found in one of my friends' toolboxes. However it was slightly smaller than the ones that came with the kit so I used a metal washer to make sure the nut will fasten correctly against the backplate.

With that I was able to successfully get the cooler installed and fortunately the hassle was worth the effort. As my i7 4790k will peak 77 C using Prime95 for most heat/CPU stress test setting (10+ hours) and other benchmarks and stress test suites like Intel's extreme tuning tool will only get the CPU to 63 C. This is far better than easily hitting 91 C as it were occurring with the stock heatsink and fan within the few minutes of benchmarking via intel XTU. Note that I used arctic silver 5 for thermal paste than whatever cooler master provided.

Now before I found the spare hex nut I of course did the replacement parts request thing and still no word on that other than it's been approved. The following day just went ahead and ordered the full parts kit for the hyper 212 evo from cooler master's online store website figuring most likely would be a faster way to resolve this problem. Just yesterday their online store sent an email notifying me they just shipped the hyper 212 evo parts kit. So it took a week ship an order from them. And again still no replacement parts status update on the support site. So far my experience is cooler master's QA needs work, but when I do have all the parts their product seems to work as advertised.

I'll post an update whenever the replacement parts do arrive.

Wow. I'm sorry you had to deal with so much frustration. Glad the nut you found worked, sometimes it pays to be resourceful. I've done a lot of workarounds for things in various projects but I hate to suggest it to others unless it's a last resort. I know there's a risk of things not panning out and accept it when I do it but would feel bad if I told someone to 'just do this' and it didn't work out. Especially if come to find out they could have contacted tech support for the part and had a proper replacement without the headache. Many of my 'solutions' I do myself come with major warning labels that involve 'at your own risk' lol.

My fear was suggesting a hardware store. I wouldn't mind spending 30min to an hour sorting through nuts and bolts personally but others are typically dumbfounded by my patience and persistence and give well before I do. It helps I like the hardware store so it's not a chore for me really. My luck I would have suggested it, wasted someone's time for an hour digging through parts and still not found an exact fit.
