just wondering if you guys can help me a few days ago my system had a massive crash and suddenly became unresponsive ( i as playing dota 2 with spotify in the back someting i do everyday) i left it for 10 min and it started working for about 2 seconds and total freeze again i had to turn the pc off by holding down the power button on restart i got the error message pressed ctrl alt delete to restart and it started working once loaded started crashing again i assumed it was the hdd so i ordered a new hdd on amazon installed it.

all was fine for a day then once again i got a freeze but this started working within no time i carried on with my game when i went to shut down it froze on shutting down i had to hold the power button to turn on tried turning on again and got the same error message excpet this time when i pressed ctrl alt delete it was just stuck in the loop i unplugged everything left it a few min plugged it again and it worked but now my system sometimes will work fine for hours but sometimes within minutes of it been on it totally becomes un responsive and everytime it becomes un responsive it gets stuck in the error and just keeps looping untill i unplug

i would think the chances of it been the new hdd failing would be slim i have ran a memory diagonstic using the windows tool and the ram is fine (it says) i downloaded a tool from wd to test my hdd and it says that is fine just wondering if you guys have any ideas of what it could be i must add this is new install of windows 7 and all i have on it is steam all drivers and windows updates are up to date the system is around 5 years old but has a new hdd and psu thanks for looking and sorry about the long message just wanted to include as much info as possible

Solution
got a old pc with a drive try that drive with the old sata cable

test to see if its the cables
if not thin test port on the mobo chage witch sata port it's plugged in to
note you my have to rebuild the mbr table http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20864-mbr-restore-windows-7-master-boot-record.html

also if it was your ram your pc would most liky not even boot or <POST>
