So i know going from normal hdd to an ssd its best to fresh install. But going from ssd to ssd is cloning a good idea or still fresh install the way to go? I have a pny 240 and just got a samsung 850 evo 240.

I agree with USAFret If the PNY is running well then just add the Samsung as extra storage. But if you are determined to install the Samsung, I always go for a fresh install. That way I know there wont be any issues as far as that is concerned. I do make backups of the current drive before, you know, just in case.

Maybe someone with a little more experience can chime in because I'm not 100% sure if there are any issues related to SSD to SSD clones.

Is the PNY currently running well? Is it a SATA III drive? How old is it?

Personally, I'd leave it as is. Which is exactly what I did when I added 2 x Samsung 250GB drives to my system with a 128GB Kingston as the OS drive. Just add the new ones as other drives.

Well, personally if it were me. I would back everything up, and do a fresh install. But that is me. I would do this for no other reason than peace of mind. There could be little to no risk when going from SSD to SSD but as I stated Personally, I would do a Fresh install.
