Hello everyone!
First off, the rig:
i5 4690K OC @ 4.2GHz (was 4.4), liquid cooled
ASRock Z97 Extreme6 mobo
2x MSI Gaming 290X in CF, liquid cooling
16GB DDR3 1600 ram
AMD Omega drivers 14.12
So I picked up BF4 this past holiday and I thought with this rig it would run without a problem on my new 144Hz Asus I picked up about a month ago. But I'm only getting ~40-60fps with some boosts up to 80-90 but then right back down. The framerate is actually all over the map when I'm playing it and I thought with crossfired 290x I would have no issues. I've tried using Mantle and Dx11 with only slightly better performance with Mantle. So I've been trying to hone in on what might be causing this awful performance.
I know that BF4 is a really CPU intensive game so now I'm wondering if it's my CPU that's causing the issues or I've also heard that even though some motherboards support CF and SLI, they don't do it particularly well, or maybe it's my ram speed (1600, I've heard this can also be an issue)... basically I'm questioning my components because something has to be the cause here. Afterburner is showing me that both GPUs are only using ~50-60% each @ 40-48 Celsius in gameplay, but games like DA :.Inquisition have no problem utilizing 100% of each.
Has anyone had this problem with 290x crossfire? It's kind of a let down to see such wasted power and underwhelming performance when I've seen what this rig is capable of. Thanks in advance! And let me know if I missed any components that needed to be listed.
