I intend on getting a Corsair 450D tower, but I also want to add a couple of fans to the three that come preinstalled. The motherboard i want is the asrock 970 fatal1ty performance and has 3 fan connectors. But overall ill have 5 fans... What can I do to accommodate all the fans? I'm a relative noob to pc parts and installation

As the name implies, splitters will split the signal from the fan header and allow you to use two fans on one fan header.
As for how many to buy - you have 3 fan headers, 5 case fans, and each splitter allows you to use 2 fans on one header = you need to buy 2 splitters.
