Randomly during gameplay my computer screen will freeze up completely, meaning that my mouse and keyboard have no effect on the screen, and a buzzing audio loop will appear. The only way to override this issue is a manual restart via the standby button. However sometimes the screen will freeze for two seconds, turn black and then flash. It would then return me to the game but the game window will be completely black with audio playing in the background. Sometimes this even happens and doesn't leave any obvious sign as to what the issue could have been in the event viewer. I have had this issue plague me for a very long time and am just sick of it now. This problem has appeared to me in games like Rust, The Forest, Dead Island Riptide and Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87-OC
CPU: Intel Core I7 4770K 3.5GHz
GPU: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 780
PSU: Corsair Gaming Series 800W
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 4x4GB DDR3
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
I have tried the following to help root out the problem.
- I have uninstalled and reinstalled nVidia drivers countless times using Phyxion Driver Sweeper alongside CCleaner whilst in safe mode. I have even gone to the extent to manually search for any nVidia drivers in the C drive to delete but this issue still persists. Leading me to believe it is not an nVidia driver issue.
- Ran memtest86+ overnight multiple times and have not found any errors in my RAM.
- I have stress tested my GPU using Furmark and 3DMark and have not seen it fail once.
- I have ran temperature tests using MSI Afterburner and the GPU does not run above 68 celsius. The CPU maxes around 60 celsius. I have since changed the fan profile settings and the curve to lower these temperatures even more.
- I have tried my GPU in another machine and the problem could not be replicated.
- I have flashed my motherboard BIOS from F3 to F8.
Anybody have any idea what could be the causes for this or how I can get to the bottom of this? It's driving me nuts!
Note: This rig that I built myself is only a little over a year old and all parts were brand new. Any help is appreciated.
