Hello,

I am experiencing a problem with my 2010 Dell XPS-9000 (aka XPS-435T).

The CPU (Intel 17 965 Extreme) is running very hot (up to 100° C at times).

As a result the fans are constantly running. I'm not sure why there appears to be a change in it's behavior but I'm a pretty concerned.

I've taken a screenshot of the current operating environment:

In the last two weeks out of 10 times it booted it gave a BSOD 2 or 3 times near end of booting.

What suggestions or questions do you have to help me solve this issue?

TIA for your replies!

Phil

That could be the reason. But some of my friends are suggesting that I check inside to see if it's plugged with dust. That is what I think is the first thing to do. What do you think?

I had a problem with the fan constantly running and it seems the avast is the problem. There is a process called mftutil.exe that on Dell laptops for whatever reason takes up 12%+ of CPU time. I have just uninstalled that component from Avast and the problem has gone away including the high CPU temperatures. You cannot just stop this process, you have to right click and "change" Avast from the control panel.
