Hi,
I'm trying to install a windows 7 on an old PC that used to run windows, then it became a media center with openelec and now I reformatted the drive and installed windows 7.
The installation itself is successful, windows is operating normally, but after I restart I get a BOOT ERROR message. Here is the weird part:
1. If I manually choose a boot device on startup (chossing the hdd), it boots fine.
2. If I set boot priority to start with the DVD drive and the windows CD is there, it boots fine.
3. Otherwise, I get the error.

I assumed this had to do with the BIOS or MBR, I did pretty much everything in this guide:
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/win7-windows-7-mbr,10036.html
Didn't help.
I also tried to reset the bios and set different boot priorities, but still nothing.

Another weird thing is when I go to the "fix installation screen", the windows installation is not recognized by the cd! Looks like something isn't properly installed or configured.
Any ideas?

Solution
Have you tried reinstalling? It's possible something went wrong during the installation process. Also if you have any USB thumb drives connected, unplug them as they can cause errors like this.

I have tried reinstalling and actually I eventually managed to get over the issue on my own. Like you suggested, I think it was caused by usb stick being connected some of the time. I am marking your answer as the solution since it was spot on.
