Hey guys,

I'm looking at picking up a new GPU, and have had my eye on the GTX 970's. That being said I stumbled across a review stating that the GTX 970 paired with a M5A97 / AM3+ 970 mobo Rev 1.0 would not boot.

I am not sure if they had updated the BIOS on at all, or if they left it stock, the reviewer was only using a FX-8100 series (Vishera I think it was).

My point is, if the BIOS is fully up to date, could I utilize a GTX 970 fully? Or even at all? If the MOBO supports PCI-E GPU's why would it be incompatible? Or should I hold off and replace the MOBO first?

Current build:

- FX 8320 OC'd to 4.2GHz
- 12 GB G. Skill Sniper 1866 RAM
- Cooler Master Evo 212 Heatsink
- ASUS M5A97 Rev. 1.0 MOBO, with latest BIOS (1605)
- ANTEC HCG 850w Bronze cert. Modular PSU
- XFX Radeon HD 7870 2GB
- Samsung 240 Pro SSD
- WD Blue 1TB HDD

Thanks for the thoughts ahead of time!

K thanks Venbeer, will give it a go, with caution. Was afraid my CPU may bottleneck, however I will not be doing any 4k gaming at this time, strictly 1920x1080.

Thanks again for your input, appreciate it.

No worries. If so, then I suggest getting something like an R9 290X for 1080p gaming instead, because then you can take advantage of Mantle, which will help improve performance and reduce bottlenecks, and should be neck and neck with the 970, and even outperform it if Mantle is available :)
