Hey guys,
I'm looking at picking up a new GPU, and have had my eye on the GTX 970's. That being said I stumbled across a review stating that the GTX 970 paired with a M5A97 / AM3+ 970 mobo Rev 1.0 would not boot.
I am not sure if they had updated the BIOS on at all, or if they left it stock, the reviewer was only using a FX-8100 series (Vishera I think it was).
My point is, if the BIOS is fully up to date, could I utilize a GTX 970 fully? Or even at all? If the MOBO supports PCI-E GPU's why would it be incompatible? Or should I hold off and replace the MOBO first?
Current build:
- FX 8320 OC'd to 4.2GHz
- 12 GB G. Skill Sniper 1866 RAM
- Cooler Master Evo 212 Heatsink
- ASUS M5A97 Rev. 1.0 MOBO, with latest BIOS (1605)
- ANTEC HCG 850w Bronze cert. Modular PSU
- XFX Radeon HD 7870 2GB
- Samsung 240 Pro SSD
- WD Blue 1TB HDD
Thanks for the thoughts ahead of time!
