which is better? i3 or an athlon x4 for all purpose pc?

im goin to build my fist pc. so im ended up whith these these two processors either an i3 or an athlon x4 one....

i may use a r9 270or, r9 270, gtx 760, a gtx 750 ti OR a r7 265...
*i DONT overlock...

EDIT: I going to use these for games (obviously), game recording and vid editing

You do know there are many generations of Athlons? To be honest I would get an 860K over an i3 for a GENERAL purpose computer. For a pure gaming machine I would get an i3 because of the better single threaded performance.

IMO I'd always choose intel over AMD just because they are more efficient, so they cost less in the long run. Besides I have some bad history with the Athlon x4s getting really toasty, but maybe I was just unlucky.

What i3 are you thinking of?

Intel 4th gen...well it leaves you without any doubt...this is a decent CPU...in some games it is on par with fx-8350 or fx-6350 from AMD, due to its unbelievable single core performance...thumbs up...it is a great choice, go for it

Some people may attack me for saying it is on par with AMD FX-8350 well before they do here are the benchmarks, in some of these benchs instead of i3 4th gen we have i3 3rd gen... so that means the 4th gen works even better

umm.... what about game rec like fraps? does fraps affect game's fps? i know that game rec uses cpu power right?

Recording with fraps is cpu intensive, but recording with your GPU (shadowplay for nvidia. GVR for AMD) or using MSI afterburner's recorder will have MUCH less impact on your FPS
