Got an OCZ Vertex 4 128GB ssd about 2 years ago (best upgrade ever) and format/reinstall windows about every 9 months.

Recently I noticed that my SSD was running out of space, so i deleted a few games... But then decided to run SpaceMonger to check what was taking up all the space. And it was nothing...well nothing major. Except a big grey block of Unscannable Folders (3) taking up 23.6GB.

I thought it was maybe a windows thing (page file, hibernation files, restore points) but it doesnt seem to be the case. Opening C drive in explorer and highlighting everying (hidden files included, Recovery, etc.) and checking properties only showed up as taking 70 odd GB.

So what could possibly be taking up 23.6GB (that i cant even look at)?

I will probably format in a few minutes if no answer comes:D

I noticed that I had only about 25GB free about 2 weeks ago but thought that it was just due to general use so I deleted a 6GB game. So I had 30+GB. Now I only have 22GB free and I cant remember adding any large files... But I can visually see that I am only using 70GB, which should should leave 49GB free (119 - 70), but I only have 22GB free. So there is about 25GB which is unscannable in SpaceMonger and I cannot account for it.

This is most likely cause by shadowstorage (sytem restore storage).

Open command prompt and enter the following (Run -> cmd):
vssadmin list shadowstorage

This will list the space taken by the shadowstorage. I don't think shadowstorage should be anymore than 15% of your drive. To set it to 15% enter the following in command prompt (Run -> cmd):
vssadmin resize shadowstorage /on=C: /For=C: /MaxSize=15%

This should re-size the shadowstorage partition to 15%.
