I gotta make a decision tonight on a used gaming pc. I wanna transfer my gtx 970 and 500gb ssd (has windows 8.1 and all my stuff in it)

Here are the seller's specs: (originally priced at $500, went down to $470 after some haggling)
-msi z97-g45 gaming motherboard
-intel i5 4690k unlocked
-xidax 1600mhz ddr3 8 gig ram
-corsair 750w modular power supply
-asus dvd-rw
-Msi gtx 760 twin frozr 2gb graphics card
-1tb hard drive
- xidax liquid cooling (cpu)
-corsair Carbide 540 case with green led lights inside

It is a customized xidax build (like from their website)
Is it worth it or should I never buy used gaming rigs? He said the pc is only TWO months old but who knows, although their components do look new.

help me out guys! Need to know if its worth the trouble of SSD transfer, etc or to wait for better deals. I do wanna overclock my cpu but my current one is worthless for that so that's a main reason for shelling out $ for a used pc

If it matters, here is my current rig:
i5 3350p
k430 mobo
antec 1100 v2 case w/five 120mm fans
500 w evga psu
msi gtx gaming 970 (will switch out)
12gb ram ddr3
win 8.1 in 500gb SSD
1 tb hdd

Solution

My bad. I mis-read your current rig. You may get lucky, then. If you do, and the system boots to the desktop, Win will try to install the necessary drivers for the MB components it finds. If all is well, reboot and run something like CCleaner to fix the mess that the Registry will be in. https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

The change from the AMD format to the Intel format would be more than the existing installation would be able to recover itself from. You will need to do a clean install and re-install all your pgms and games. Sorry.
You can try to boot with the current installation. Who knows, you may get lucky. But I doubt it.

Dang...I just managed to transfer my 1tb hdd into my ssd using samsungs migrations software literally last night..
I'm thinking I can do the same with the new but I will have to do a data transfer transferring everything back to the old hdd and then another transfer from the new rig's data to my ssd so it boots into it. Will that work? I'll just use the new rigs windows install

Nope, sorry. The operating system installs itself based on the components it recognizes on the motherboard. The AMD platform is totally different from the Intel platform. It will require a clean install of the OS to have a stable system. If fact, to even be able to boot.

When you get ready to install Win8 to the SSD, follow this guide: http://www.overclock.net/t/1240779/seans-windows-8-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds

Yes... if you get lucky. Don't forget to do the cleanup I mentioned. The system may be totally stable, but time will tell...

UPDATE: I ended up not going for it because the seller would not test the system for me. Being a 4hr roundtrip drive, I didn't want to haul back a damaged pc plus I can't return it or have any guarantees :(

Smart, this likely means the seller had no idea how to fix it, likely popped the motherboard as they didn't know what they were doing OR bent pins on the motherboard.
