I can get the 970 for around the same price as 290X, any other picks which would be good value?

Are you buying in the USA? Prices may be different where you are. (4690K is $15 cheaper than 4670K at the moment) There are many minor optimizing changes I would consider to reduce the price.

That PSU is good and crazy cheap, buy two or three !

The GPU was not available and neither was your case. The RAM is faster to go with your overclock.
