If it's old enough that it's pre-SATA, then it's not going to be that quick. It's also probably on borrowed time unless it's been very lightly used.

Unless your new motherboard is also salvaged from an old PC (say, Pentium 4 era) then you'll be "spoiling the ship for a ha'peth of tar", to use an old English saying. I'd suggest picking up a cheap modern 7200rpm terabyte-class SATA drive. If capacity isn't an issue (the PATA drive isn't likely to be much more than about 250GB after all - I don't think I've ever seen a PATA drive bigger than that), get an SSD.
