Hi guys,

I seem to run into a problem. My pc suddenly shut off and now it won't boot.

I was in the catalsyt control center checking my software version when it happened.

The Pc powers on. The cpu fan is running, the system fan is running the GPU fan is running. The power led and hdd led light up but it doesn't boot, not into bios even. The screen sits blank.

I tried removing my ram sticks 1 by one I also tried the sticks in alternate slots but no joy. I tried removing my GPU and then connecting to on board graphics display but no luck there too. Removed the hdd but the pc makes no sound..

Then I tried to see if something was stuck in my case which was short circuiting by powering the system by taking out the Mobo and putting it on a non static paper but it doesn't help either.

Removed the cmos battery waited an hour but no joy.

I am stuck now as to what might be at fault.

It's a very old system I fear Mobo is gone bad.

Core 2 Duo E4500
1tb wd hdd
2gb ram ddr2 (1gb sticks x2) kingston
Gigabyte 945GCMX S2 mobo
Radeon 6770 1gb ddr5
Corsair 450w psu.

Please help, advice.

Solution
Mostly likely it is the mobo...a repair shop should be able to replace it, or you could just order a new mobo (you will probably need a new CPU, RAM & maybe PSU).
Breadboarding the PC (take everything out of the case) and having only the mobo, cpu and one stick of RAM is the best solution to test....

One thing about computers - simply powering off the computer (start > shutdown) doesn't truly power off the system. There is current still flowing through the mobo. To ensure that the system is powered down, you must flip the switch on the PSU to remove power or unplug the cord. It may or may not have been the cause of the issue....

Hi ronin,

Thanks for the reply.

I did switch off the power button on the psu and tried. Infact I pulled out the whole psu from the case including the Mobo and tried with only a stick of ram and cpu but the same happens.. The fans and the lights work but there is no beep sounds no boot.

Went through the list before posting the thread. Should I go to a pc repair shop next?
