I own the ram that is in the title and i am running it at 1600mhz. When you look up this ram on their site it says it can run at 2133mhz overclocked (also says that on amazon where i bought it).

I don't know a lot about overclocking, and i don't want to damage my pc so i thought i'd ask here.

How do i overclock it, is it worth it for gaming/other things and how safe is it for my pc?

My current specs are:

AMD FX-4300
Radeon HD 7850 direct CU II
Gigabyte SKT-AM3+ 78LMT-S2P Rev 5.1
2x4gb of this ram

My friend (who built this pc for me) has tried to go into the BIOS and change the ram speed but it wouldn't allow it through that.

While looking up about overclocking this ram, people were saying their cpu wouldn't let them, so i have ordered an AMD FX-8350 (not so i can overclock, i just wanted to upgrade), would i be able to overclock on that cpu?

Any help is appreciated :)

Is your RAM actually running at 1600MHz right now? I very much doubt you're going to get 2133MHz on the RAM with that CPU and that board unfortunately, even with the 8350 :( That RAM is capable of it though, I had it at 2133 at CL11 if I remember correctly

Could it be my motherboard that is stopping me? I'm not sure how to overclock ram but in the bios when my friend tried, it just wouldn't let him select 2133mhz

Good that it's actually running at 1600MHz as I took a look at your board and it only supports DRAM upto 1333, I should also mention that your board only supports processors with a TDP of upto 95w, so no 8350 :(
