Long story short, I accidentally changed the default .lnk program to windows picture viewer. Now I have the windows picture viewer image on all my desktop icons and task bar. I'm unsure how to change this and its is very annoying because every time I click on something it opens it in picture viewer and says unknown file or such. Thanks for any help you can provide

Solution
If you can't find all the extensions in default programs, then there's this tool that makes it a lot more simple - http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/unassociate-file-types-windows-7-vista/

In Windows 8 and 8.1, you just need to go to control panel, click programs, click default programs, click associate a file type or protocol with a program, scroll through the list until you find .lnk and then change the association.
