What size SSD?

Currently I have about 230 GBs on my "C" drive HDD which comprises of the OS (Win 7 Pro), programs, and games. I would like to replace this HDD with a SSD drive. I am aware of future OS updates, updates to other programs, and maybe adding a new program (unknown at this time).

I am considering replacing the HDD with a 500 GB SSD. This I know will work. My question is will I be able to get away with a 250 GB SSD?

Thank you!

I think right now since you can get a 500GB Samsung EVO for $225, you might as well just go with the 480-512GB model. You don't want a brand new drive and to already be concerned with running out of space. I also use a SSD and mechanical drive in all my PCs. Except my notebook which is just an SSD. I use a 240GB SSD in my main office/gaming PC but it's less than half full.
Yes, you sure can. I would recommend a 256 gb now and when you start and maybe adding a 1/2 tb hard drive if the space permits. My desktop current has that combo of 256 gb ssd and 2 tb Hdd. The ssd handle all programs and Os and my HDD handles every else include my fairly large steam Library.

I have a SSD in every pc I own now the smallest is 120 and I use that for the OS only and apps needed. So a 250 would work and you can use the mechanical drive for other stuff like game/files you will see a noticeable difference in your pc Samsung makes a good drives also Intel makes a fast 120 as well. Hope this helps....

How big is the HDD Ubrales? The HDD partition you want to clone must be = or < the space on the SSD.

If you can, partition the HDD and put the games on the 2nd partition. Then clone the Reserved, OS and programs (shrink it as much as you can) to the SSD.

There are plenty of 512GB SSD's around $200. I'd suggest forgoing the 256GB in favor of a larger one.

Agree! I do not want to run out of space on a new SSD; 500 GB would be the way to go.

Planning to replace the present 500 GB RE4 HDD which holds the OS, programs, and games. 230 GB used so far.

Data, music, videos, photos, etc. is saved on two 1 TB HDDs in RAID1 (capacity 1 TB) - So far used 240 GBs.

Additional 500 GB HDD for miscellaneous (everything that I cannot categorize or identify).

Backups on external WD 2 TB HDD, and on WD 1 TB hot plug HDD (for redundancy). I believe in 'belt and suspenders' when it comes to saving and backing up my computer.
