My current specs are;
CPU: AMD FX-8320 OC @ 4.2GHZ
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
GPU: MSI GTX 970
MOBO: Gigabyte GA78LMT-USB3
PSU: EVGA Supernova 850G2
Memory: 2x4GB 1600MHz RAM
HDD: WD Blue 1TB 7200 RPM
Optical Drive: LG CD/DVD
Case: NZXT Phantom 410
Cooling: 3 Exhaust 3 Intake NZXT Case Fans
OS: Windows 8.1

Now my question is with the new generation of CPUs on the horizon, is now a good time to upgrade? I am about to add an ssd to my system and after that I was planning on upgrading my cpu mobo and ram, but is now a good time to do so? Would I be better off waiting? Thanks for any help!

I would say "need" is relative. If it were me, those specs would probably last a nice while. If it plays everything you want at a good area, you'll probably not need the upgrade. Even with an upgrade, the difference in frame rate wouldn't be a big difference in my opinion, or maybe getting more RAM if you want to spend extra on that.

If you plan on throwing in another 970 into that system, then yes, maybe consider getting a new CPU/Mobo, but I wouldn't say it'd be worth it.
