Why does my laptop randomly shut off?

I had a Pentium B970 in my laptop before I ordered an i3-3130m, which ran fine. I actually found out that I'd been running it without any thermal compound, but it still ran fine oddly. Now when I try to use my new i3, it runs great, but then it shuts itself off as if its overheating. The thing is, it stays around 40 degrees Celsius and reaches 60 at max. I'm not sure as to what could be the issue since the Pentium doesn't do this, but I've got another identical i3 that does the same thing. Any ideas? I'm using arctic silver 5 thermal compound and a Toshiba Satellite C875-S7205. Thanks for any help or ideas!! :D

Hmm. Well there are other models of this laptop that run with the i3. It could be second generation though. Lol think a bios update could help fix the issue? It doesn't shut off in the bios or when its in sleep mode.

I believe it is supported, but maybe not. It doesn't give me any error codes or anything when booting and in the bios it displays the right information on the processor description.

Yup. I'm using it now and I've never had an issue with it. It runs at even higher temperatures too. My chipset driver was the standard driver so maybe that could be it. Doubt it, but it's worth a shot. Lol after I get the i3 in again to test it, I'll tell you how it goes. :)

Whelp, I did some research and the chipset I've got is an HM70 Chipset that can only use Pentium and Celeron processors! Bad news, but at least I know what the issue was. :) Thanks for your help!
