Hi all,

I'm building a pc for the first time and would like to use it for moderate gaming (skyrim maxed out + mods for example) and also for AutoCAD/inversion processing. I don't want something massive so I'm open to a mini-itx format, but I don't really know what I miss out on features with it so MOBO advice definitiely appreciated. Had my eye on this cooler master as an example of what would be an ideal case size/form, but could do a mid-tower or desktop if necessary:

I'd love an i5 4690k to give me some headroom for few years, but I'm not sure how justified I am if perhaps a G3258 would do the job at a fraction of the cost.

Ultimately I don't want to fall into an upward spending spiral above taking me too far above $700. I live close to a MC and have already picked up a PC R9 285 for ~$150.

Thoughts appreciated

My advice: go micro-ATX. It's just easier to assemble and as good as itx.

The $700 includes the GPU. Peripherals are mainly a concern for later. I was going to set up as a media centre first and use for work in ~3-6months time so I thought I'd muddle through with a keyboard/mousepad combo or similar.

OS would be on top of that, possibly Linux of I still feel like a challenge...

I like the look of that list, if could swap in the 4690/k

If you really want... but i think i5-4460 would be perfect for you.

This is my suggestion. SSHD for fast startups, great modular power supply and simple yet well-built case. The CPU and motherboard are both great as well. What do you think?
