No internet access using ethernet from laptop to pc

I recently got a new pc and can not use a wired connection from my modem because of location. So I tried using an Ethernet cable running from my laptop(hp Pavilion dm4) to my pc. they are both running windows 7 and i have tried going into the properties section of my network and selecting "allow other users to connect through this computers internet connection".

The only other suggestion is to try a different Ethernet cable.

Unfortunately there's not much more you can do if the ICS procedure doesn't work. You might want to consider just purchasing an inexpensive USB wifi adapter.

What error messages do you see when trying to use ICS?

Does the PC indicate a successful connection to your laptop?

Yes, the pc registers it as an unidentified network and says no internet access. When I troubleshoot the connection it says that here is an invalid ip address
